Skate Chautauqua

It is with great pleasure that we announce SKATE CHAUTAUQUA.  The Jamestown Skating Club will host Freestyle, Test Track, Dance, and Pair Competitive Events at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena in Jamestown, NY, August 13 - 14, 2010. Skate Chautauqua is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and Skate Canada.  World, International, and National Judges from across the country have accepted our invitation and are scheduled to judge at our competition.

We hope that you will also enjoy Jamestown's unique location, 14 miles south of the renowned Chautauqua Institution.  Chautauqua is a summer cultural center for the arts located on Lake Chautauqua.  In addition to the availability of concerts, lectures, ballet, and art within the Institution grounds, there is an abundance of summer sports activity including swimming, boating, fishing, golf, and tennis.

On Ice IJS Seminar/Critique

All skaters competiting in IJS Events will be eligible to take part in an on ice seminar/critique conducted by a National Teachnical Specialist and National Judge. The IJS Seminar/Critique is included in your entry fee!

Skaters will be able to demonstrate elements for the technical specialist and judge and will be informed of an element's level and informed of the grade of execution and how they could be improved. This is a GREAT opportunity for both skaters and coaches that will be held after the short programs. Elements from the long may be demonstrated as well.

ELIGIBILITY: Skate Chautauqua is open to all amateur skaters who are members in good standing of U.S. Figure Skating and Skate Canada.  Eligibility is based on USFS tests passed as of July 1, 2010.  Skate Chautauqua will be conducted according to the rules set forth in the 2010-11 USFS Rulebook except as modified or altered at the 2010 Governing Council Meeting.  Skaters may compete in Freestyle, Dance and Pair events as qualified by their test level as of July 1, 2010, or one level higher; however, skaters may only enter one level per event.  In Compulsory Moves, skaters may enter at their level and one level higher.  Where applicable, the age requirement is as of July 1, 2010.

EVENTS: Short and Long Programs will be judged separately and will be judged under the IJS system according to the 2010-11 USFS Rulebook. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places. Judges will be available for critiques on the Intermediate through Senior Short Programs. Judges will be available, by request, for Long Program critiques.

Snack Bar and Dressing rooms are available.

PRACTICE ICE: Practice ice will be available beginning Friday August 14, 2010 and throughout the competition at an extra fee.

MUSIC: Each competitor must furnish his/her own CD, clearly labeled with the competitor's name and event. CDs must be turned in at time of registration.  An extra copy of the competitor's CD should be available at rinkside in the event of technical difficulties.

REGISTRATION: A registration desk will be open throughout the competition.  Competitors should register promptly upon arrival.  Skaters should check the official bulletin board at the Registration Desk for the final schedule of events and for any changes.
